theBRAIN is a real computer — a Raspberry Pi 5 with room for models, vision, and the software you choose — designed to stay private by default and permissioned when it acts.
A computer you can extend
Learning, personal notes, and shared spaces are flagship uses — not the only ones. Because every unit is a full Linux machine with generous RAM and an AI accelerator path, you can install other tools beside theBRAIN stack. They are designed to coexist.
Allowlisted control
When you want the brain to drive another app, that app exposes a narrow API or MCP surface. You grant it in Scooling — the brain may call only what you enable.
Known in Scooling
Permissions, tool runs, and refusals are designed to show up in the Scooling control plane — so uses beyond tutoring are still visible and auditable.
Tools & permissions (planned)
Scooling is where identity, pairing, parental gates, and the skill allowlist live.
- Devices → theBRAIN → Tools — enable or revoke each skill (intent name; exact labels may refine).
- Transport — allowlisted HTTP API or MCP tools only — not arbitrary shell or SSH from the phone app.
- Child profiles — third-party control defaults off; parental gate required.
- theBRAIN app Skills tab — planned empty state first, then live allowlisted actions after the permission wire lands.
This is product intent while the edge agent and control app are still in prototype. We do not claim every third-party app is controllable on day one.
A full public tour of the control app (Chat, Lights, Sensors, Model, Safety, People, Skills) lives at /app — roadmap W7 / E7-site (shipped). Status labels stay honest about what still needs hardware or Scooling.
